Monday 22 June 2026 at Brixton House was the day SJ and i delivered our co-created workshop titled, Deadwooding In Wonder to the Re-Up! community.
Now you may be wondering why talk about that event now, in September!?
Well will the combination of life and time folding…as if that wasn’t enough, just to have space to process what we seeded together and understand we may just have something really special to build on has led me to now.
To have the time and space to explore this deep work of Grief, Culture, Rituals, Cycles, Creating, Body Recognition, Science all rooted in Restorative Care, we know this space really cannot be rushed.
As people we tend to rush through the start-middle-end process but i have always been keen to explore the ‘filler chats’, the ‘in betweeny’ bits and for the organic nature of tending to something of value to take hold.
Grief is also something you cannot assume knowledge over – each person has their own experience of it…and continue to carry it and continue to put one step in front of the other each day. So to give grace to the individual, to meet them where they are at, to not assume all the answers…it all matters…to those who we are in service of, and to ourselves.
I have met so many people where Grief presents itself in so many different ways. If they have had to experience someone ‘leaving’, or their job/role has ended/changed, or priorities in life have had to pivot…or even an illness is being managed…Grief can propel re-prioritising, either consciously or unconsciously. Resulting in a new path where your identity is all of a sudden not something you can connect or relate to.
It can be really confronting…whilst also liberating.
So whichever side you look at this from, the emotions of uncertainty and fear are real and not to be ignored…but by harnessing them, perhaps something safe and comfortable will surface.
I am really grateful for this space of exploration with SJ and others…and once we find the right outlet to share further we will defo be doing just that.
