Funny Things is a new festival of comedy taking place in Wolverhampton from 23 Oct – 5 Nov 2017
When reports from the Office for National Statistics stated that Wolverhampton was the unhappiest place in the UK, locals didn’t agree, and now we are going to prove it isn’t true, with Wolverhampton’s newest comedy festival.
Celebrating the Black Country’s great humour the festival, produced by Creative Black Country with partners Wolves Civic and Accord, will create opportunities for the local community to participate alongside well-known headline stand-up comedians.
“For the first time Wolverhampton City will come together and host over 100 events in the name of humour! We’re pleased to see a whole range of events that explore comedy at it’s broadest sense, alongside standup we have artists commissions and events that reflect local voices.” Comments Parminder Dosanjh, Creative Director of Creative Black Country.
Wolverhampton will come alive with laughter between 23 October – 5 November as venues across the city host a whole array of Funny Things including comedy theatre, music, poetry, film, stand-up, family activities, talks and workshops.
Look out for the festival band, Orchestra of Chaos, popping up in a café, chip shop, street corner or hairdressers near you or get involved with the #JokeExchange and see your joke on a placard in the city centre. Take part in the Black Country New Act Of The Year competition and come along to our free Funny Market on 28 and 29 October where you can browse stalls full of comics, funny books and films and silly experiences.
Comedian Janice Connolly is Guest Director of the event. Janice said: “I’m really pleased to be Guest Director for Funny Things. It’s important to have events like this that bring people together to have a laugh and involve the whole community. Comedy really is for everyone.”
To bring the festival to life CBC have worked with Big Difference Company – the producers of the hugely successful Leicester Comedy Festival: “It’s been great to have worked with the team at Creative Black Country and provide some support for the first ever Funny Things Comedy Festival”, says Geoff Rowe, CEO Big Difference Company. “The programme looks amazing and demonstrates the support the festival has amongst the local community. Comedy is a great way to unite communities as humour and laughter is something that everyone does no matter what background they are from and I’m sure the festival will help do this across Wolverhampton as well as raising plenty of smiles for audiences that attend the events.” .
It’s time to have a laugh (giggles, chortles, titters, sniggers, cackles, guffaws, smirks and chuckles are also available)!
