MI21 - MOTHER INDIA 21st CENTURY REMIX - UK LAUNCH

KALA PHOOL is proud to present the World Premier of Mother India 21st Century Remix (MI21).

MI21 is a dynamic, live audio/visual project to re-score and re-visualize the groundbreaking 'tour-de-force' of Indian cinematic history 'Mother India'. An iconic piece of cultural heritage, it came to symbolise the post-colonial Indian psyche interpreted through the ambitions, struggles, compassion and sheer will to survive of the central 'Mother' character Radha.

Profoundly influential, Mother India was lauded for its stunning cinematography, indelible soundtrack and powerfully dramatic storyline.

KALA PHOOL in association with The Drum have brought the film together with one of the world's leading Turntablists and electronic composers; former world champion DJ Tigerstyle to reinterpret the score through a unique live electronic performance accompanied by Cellist, Matt Constantine and Drummer David Shaw. Experimental and contemporary, yet true to the source, the film has been specially re-cut and remixed.

An extraordinary film, and an extraordinary re-imagining.

Be the first to see this innovative and amazing work with a live soundtrack performance at The Drum, Birmingham, on Saturday August 2nd.

The performance will be followed by a panel discussion Chaired by Raj Pal (Cultural Consultant), with Sanchita Islam (Artist), Lalit Mohan Joshi (South Asian Film Specialist) and Indy Hunjan (KALA PHOOL).
