Keira Knightley, Womans Aid

Keira Knightley stars in an advert in which she gets beaten up by a violent lover to highlight a campaign against domestic violence.

The shocking footage will be shown on TV and in cinemas in aid of the charity Women’s Aid.

In the two-minute promo called Cut, the Pirates of the Caribbean actress is attacked by her abusive boyfriend after returning home from a film set.

Women’s Aid are trying to draw attention to their statistic which reveal two women are killed every week as a result of domestic violence.

Knightley said she agreed to take part in the project to highlight the fact that the issue “exists in every section of society”.

“We may not think we know someone who has experienced domestic violence, but this does not mean that it is not happening,” she added.

The campaign, which launched today, reunites the actress with Pride and Prejudice and Atonement director, Joe Wright.

Nicola Harwin CBE, Chief Executive of Women’s Aid, said: “We hope the Women’s Aid campaign will both increase public awareness of domestic violence, letting abused women and their families and friends know that there is help out there, and also raise vital funds for Women’s Aid, to help us to continue in our work.”

Women’s Aid is asking that people to donate £2 a month to help efforts to end the issue of domestic violence.
