Just a quick update on what weve been up to in recent months.
- Back in December Indy set up a KP base in the Midlands and the move has been going so well that were now working with:
- FIERCE EARTH on a national initiative called ELEMENTAL which is solely funded by Arts Council England National Office. Elemental is looking at how best to take the Street Art and Circus sectors forward through events all around the country. Its been great to work with Helga Henry from Fierce over the past few months.
- CAPSULE are a well recognised organisation delivering extremely high quality work, festivals and events. Their SUPERSONIC 09 festival is what were involved with and so far its been great working with the Capsule girls, Lisa and Jenny.
- THE NEW ART EXCHANGE based in Nottingham has been around for years but last year they moved into a swanky new building right in the heart of the community. Its a beautifully crafted building with an even more dynamic programme from exhibitions, film, events and this year, the celebration of their Mela which is 21yrs old. With Mela 21 were helping to shape the educational programme.
Back in our South East office……..work continues on RISING STYLES which is running from 1-4 October 09. Moving it from July is a new thing for us, but as a team we wanted to try something new in our 6th year. We really hope to see loads more people there this year – our lineup will be announced in the next few months.
Our MI21 (Mother India 21st Century Remix), live film score project has gone from strength to strength and will be touring in UK venues and festivals later this year. Its been a monumentous time for KALA PHOOL with this project but were so pleased nothing is spoiling our journey
We hope you will beable to catch a show – dates will be announced soon.
Our artist management, strategic development and advocacy arms are going well. All are intertwined and incredibly rewarding.
We’d like to hear from you if you have any opinions, want further info or just want to connect. Dont be shy….go to our contact page and get in touch…you know you wanna
Best wishes,
Indy & the rest of KALA PHOOL.

Check this guy out. In Amritsar (Punjab, India) is the holiest of places for Sikhs, the Golden Temple (in the pic). There are such devout believers that they show it in different ways – this Pagh (Turban) being one of them. Amazing.

What is Pecha Kucha Night?
Pecha Kucha Night, devised by Astrid Klein and Mark Dytham (Klein Dytham architecture), was conceived in 2003 as a place for young designers to meet, network, and show their work in public.
But as we all know, give a mike to a designer (especially an architect) and you’ll be trapped for hours. The key to Pecha Kucha Night is its patented system for avoiding this fate. Each presenter is allowed 20 images, each shown for 20 seconds each – giving 6 minutes 40 seconds of fame before the next presenter is up. This keeps presentations concise, the interest level up, and gives more people the chance to show.
Pecha Kucha (which is Japanese for the sound of conversation) has tapped into a demand for a forum in which creative work can be easily and informally shown, without having to rent a gallery or chat up a magazine editor. This is a† demand that seems to be global – as Pecha Kucha Night, without any pushing, has spread virally to over 100 cities across the world. Find a location and join the conversation.
Indy from KALA PHOOL will be presented No.11 on the night in Brighton. The full line up can be viewed at www.pecha-kucha

Keira Knightley stars in an advert in which she gets beaten up by a violent lover to highlight a campaign against domestic violence.
The shocking footage will be shown on TV and in cinemas in aid of the charity Women’s Aid.
In the two-minute promo called Cut, the Pirates of the Caribbean actress is attacked by her abusive boyfriend after returning home from a film set.
Women’s Aid are trying to draw attention to their statistic which reveal two women are killed every week as a result of domestic violence.
Knightley said she agreed to take part in the project to highlight the fact that the issue “exists in every section of society”.
“We may not think we know someone who has experienced domestic violence, but this does not mean that it is not happening,” she added.
The campaign, which launched today, reunites the actress with Pride and Prejudice and Atonement director, Joe Wright.
Nicola Harwin CBE, Chief Executive of Women’s Aid, said: “We hope the Women’s Aid campaign will both increase public awareness of domestic violence, letting abused women and their families and friends know that there is help out there, and also raise vital funds for Women’s Aid, to help us to continue in our work.”
Women’s Aid is asking that people to donate £2 a month to help efforts to end the issue of domestic violence.
